Petit Plan: Europa III | 8-13 February 2022

The festival Petit Plan: Europa returns for its third edition between 8-13 February 2022 with free physical and digital screenings. More than 40 films from 18 European countries will be presented at the festival. Under the auspices of the Representation of the European Committee in Greece, the screenings focus mainly on European values such as gender equality, anti-discrimination and environmental awareness.

Along with the competition sections of the festival, two tributes will take place: “Marriage for Everyone” and a presentation to the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School. Moreover, a special screening of the film “Queen without a land” will also take place. The 3-member jury of the festival: Stelios Kymionis (Head of Development and Management of Digital Content at EKOME), Efi Panagopoulou (Project manager at Rosa Luxemburg Foundation) and Marianna Kaplatzi (Film curator Balkan Can Kino Festival), will award the film which best represents European Values and the “Best National Film”. The audience will also have the opportunity to vote for the “Audience Award”.

Alice’s Daughters (Julie Bouvelot, Denmark, 2020, 12’) A documentary on the hopes and thoughts of young female filmmakers on the cinema industry.

Adaptation (Ngima Gelu Lama, Portugal, 2020, 15’) A young red-haired boy draws the ire of local bullies because of his unique appearance.

Anti-racism needs to be political! (Thomas Silvert, Belgium, 2021, 5’) Mouhad, one of the founders of Brussels Panthers, talks about his work against racism and the stereotypes of black people in Belgium and in Holland.

Catarina (Pierre Amstutz Roch, France, 2021, 16’) Ruined and left by his wife, Francis is ready to try everything he can. With the help of his friend Simon, he decides to kidnap the wife of the man who conned him.

Ekai (Arantza Ibarra Basañez, Spain, 2021, 20’) A short documentary depicting the story of young transgender boy Ekai Lersundi, who took his own life in 2018 after struggling with the bureaucracy surrounding hormone replacement therapy assignment.

Emil (Neda Radic, Croatia, 2020, 15’) Emil is a 12 year old boy in total admiration of his mother’s partner Dino. He is a small time dealer and the young boy follows him in all his dirty deeds and tries to mimic him.

Every Sunday (Keti Papadema, Cyprus, 2021, 24’) A group of Filipino domestic workers in Cyprus prepare for a beauty pageant organised by their community, while a case of a serial killer targeting foreign female workers comes to the surface.

Exodus (Lefebvre Alexandre, André Branco Ramiro, Mathieu Romée, Lionel Schramm, France, 2020, 6’) In the near future, the Earth, the primary habitat of man, has been transformed into a hostile environment. A team of scientists is trying to find a viable solution to ecological problems.

I like Spiderman, so what? (Federico Micali, Italy, 2021, 9’) Cloe is a six years old girl with a great passion: Spiderman! For her first school day she chooses the schoolbag of her favourite superhero. However, the discovery of Cloe’s school (and world) stops at a question: Why can’t the girls have a favourite superhero?

Last Words (Laurent Rouy, Serbia, 2021, 8’) Ladino, the Sephardic Jewish language, is greatly endangered and will be soon extinct in some countries. This short documentary is about the last 2 native speakers of Ladino in Serbia. These ladies fight to keep their language alive.

Noxa (Hooman Sadeglhoo, Sweden, 2021, 24’) When a doctor finally catches a breath after her loving daughters long cancer treatment finally is over, a pandemic strikes and she faces increasing pressure from her management and forced to make the toughest decisions in her life.

Nur and Abir (Manu Gómez, Spain, 2021, 13’) This summer is special, Abir is finally going to the beach thanks to her friend Nur, and behind the back of her dictatorial parents. Together they have come up with a plan to fulfill their dream of swimming together in the sea.

Senza Nome (Gisella Gobbi, Italy, 2021, 10’) An ordinary school day told through the eyes of a seven-year-old boy: made up of games, fun classes, happy meals, and going home. An ordinary day that vanishes into the blue, like the denied dream of the young protagonist.

You Are Not a Kiwi (Maria Saveleva, Estonia, 2020, 6’) Mr. Notakiwi wants to join the community. Is society ready to accept the other and his song?

EUROPEAN VALUES SECTION

Amerigo And The New World (Laurent Crouzeix, Luis Briceno, France, 2019, 14’) Europeans gave its name to America soon after “finding” it. How did this happen exactly? A playful flashback on fake news at the times of the nascent printing industry.

Bee or not to be (Pau Enric Serra, Joan Bover, Spain, 2021, 25’) What would a world be like without pollinators? The documentary ‘Bee or not to be’ answers this question by collecting the voice of outstanding scientists.

Changing Room (Izzy Argent, UK, 2021, 4’) Changing Room follows one woman’s experience in a swimming pool from body image issues to self-love.

Eggshell (Ryan William Harris, Ireland, 2020, 14’) Joey’s life is a constant switch between a child’s vivid imagination and the harsh reality of the Irish suburbs. After building himself a Robot head to protect himself from both problems at home and outside in the real world, Joey is soon forced to face up to adulthood.

In Nature (Marcel Barelli, Switzerland, 2021, 5’) In nature, a couple is a male and a female. Well, not always! A couple is also a female and a female. Or a male and a male. You may not know it, but homosexuality isn’t just a human story.

Looking for a home Rashad Alhindi, Germany, 2020, 15’) Germans with a migration background are often given the feeling that they do not belong to the German society. As a result, they feel torn between being German and being a foreigner.

Near Our Border (Martina Troxler, Germany, 2021, 22’) A farmer reports on the sustained violence he observes as a local resident near the Bosnian-Croatian border.

ROCky (Dani Seguí, Spain, 2020, 11’) Roc has decided that his end of the year performance is the playback of a very special musical number. But the director of the high school will not allow it under any circumstances.

The Station In-Between (Paxmal) (Sven Schnyder, Switzerland, 2021, 19’) Two gay men set out on a train journey after losing a common friend to a homophobic attack when life slowly catches up with them.

Where Were You? (María Trénor Colomer, Spain, 2020, 20’) WHERE WERE YOU? challenges us to reflect on the transversal and universal reality that is violence against women. Everyday violence, subtle or brutal, all terrible and intolerable. Experiences told in different languages and from different countries.

NATIONAL COMPETITION SECTION

At The Airport (Michalis Mathioudakis, Greece, 2021, 23’) In a small greek island, Prokopis is the only employee of the local airport.

As if underwater (Anthi Daoutaki, Greece, 2020, 18’) The film tells the story of Hera, a 35 year-old woman. Her home is her world and her world is magical. Her loneliness is filled with objects. She forgets herself in her daily routine and gets tangled in her made-up micro worlds. Her difficulty to cope with social gender norms and an awkward encounter with a jeweler, lead her to buy a wedding ring. The ring gives life to an imaginary relationship, fleeting like a dream. As the relationship comes to an end, Hera goes back to her everyday life.

Bella Bimba (George Leontakianakos, Greece, 2021, 30’) After overcoming a series of personal and practical challenges, a dynamic and creative music teacher, manages to lead her students to the international school choir competition.

Dakar (Stelios Moraitidis, Greece, 2020, 12’) 1978, on his birthday, Stavros was set to get engaged to Matula. Instead, he was forced to embark on his first big journey. 2020, on his birthday, Stavros wanders around the city alone. It is the day that he doesn’t like to talk. It is the day that he reflects on his past considering how things would have been if he had made other decisions.

Flik Flok (Angeliki Pardalidou, Greece, 2021, 14’) One couple. A special night. Dinner. Wine. Will the night turn out as they imagined?

Mea Filia (Christine Tsakmaka, Greece, 2020, 12’) Antigone and Stefanos are trying to start their own family. At the same time, Antigone bonds with little Danae, a five-year-old girl who lives in the orphanage that she runs.

Pola (Natalia Lampropoulou, Greece, 2020, 10’) A middle-aged woman works at a phone sex line in order to support her paraplegic daughter. A call from her estranged son will shake up her daily routine.

Rosa Kairo (Jacques Simha, Greece, 2020, 15’) Another farewell underlines the distance between the visitors, the absents and the residents of a commune in the heart of Athens.

Sexual Distancing (Dimitris Asproloupos, Greece, 2021, 17’) Two guys, one deadly virus, a city in quarantine and a lot of sexual desperation.

Soul Food (Nikos Tseberopoulos, Greece, 2021, 24’) Yannis (15) and his mother are moving in, at her boyfriend’s apartment. Yannis starts hanging out with Olga (40), a socially secluded hard rock woman who lives in the basement of his apartment building. Simultaneously, he associates with a group of teenagers, the leader of which bullies Olga whenever he sees her.

The meaning of August (Manos Papadakis, Greece, 2020, 27’) Andreas has to take care of the boss’s house and dog. The dog is mad. The house is luxurious. His co-workers are jealous. The neighbor is stalking close by. The dog is called Leben. The dog has its own plans.

The Saint (Vasilis Stavropoulos. Greece, 2021, 15’) Domna, a distinguished poet and academic, as she approaches 85, comes closer to her biggest dream. She is nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature. At the same time, her grandson George is expecting twins. When his life is in danger, Domna will once again address her beloved “Saint”. Is it possible for prayer to be two-way?

TolisLive or (Toronto) (Alexandros Rellos, Greece, 2020, 23’) An elderly former singer decides to return to his career but he comes against his past, the choices that shaped him as a character and Toronto.

Wasted Milk (Alkiviadis Papadopoulos, Katerina Adamidou, Greece, 2021, 20’) Thirty-year-old Marianna returns to her paternal home after years, due to her dying father. Traumatic memories from her childhood come back as family secrets are revealed.

“MARRIAGE FOR EVERYONE” TRIBUTE

Being Okey (Nina Oppliger, Corinne Pfister, Nadia Lanfranchi, Switzerland, 2017, 34’) The film accompanies a gay Nigerian as he waits for the response to his second asylum request.

The Guest (Hakim Mastour, Switzerland/France, 2017, 20’) Though he has been living with Fouad for three years, 27-year old Malik going to marry Halima, 28 years old.

The Nest (Gracjana Piechula, Poland, 2021, 21’) It is 1968. Jacob, studying in Czechoslovakia, unexpectedly visits his family home in Poland. The seemingly idyllic atmosphere of the meeting after a long separation is gradually disturbed by the real reason for Jacob’s visit.

Restart (Julian Tałandziewicz, Poland, 2019, 20′) Janek is a young medical intern who struggles with financial problems and doubts about his future.

The Roots (Kuba Gryżewski, Poland, 2019, 15’) Stefan meets a new boyfriend of his daughter. However, he can not accept her choice.

Vyraj (Agnieszka Nowosielska, Poland, 2020, 20’) Weronka is living a happy and peaceful life until she learns that her father is ill. Playing with friends, her son Pietrek experiences something that makes him believe he can heal. Is it possible that the boy influences his grandfather’s health?

Queen Without Land Asgeir Helgestad | 2018 | Norway| 70′

This is a true story on the meeting between Frost, a beautiful polar bear mother, and Asgeir Helgestad, a Norwegian wildlife filmmaker. It is a four-year journey on Svalbard. Rising temperatures, are responsible for dramatic changes in Frost’s ecosystem as the ice is melting at record speed.
